The History behind Audemars Piguet Watches

By Juan Sanchez

Audemars Piguet is possibly one of the planet's oldest watchmakers. Established in1875, Jules-Louis Audemars (age 21) and Edward-Auguste Piguet (age 23) were talented workmen in their art. Even from the start in Le Brassus, the charge of production and tech was allotted to and run by Audemars while the Management and sales of their product were left to the capable hands of Piguet. This arrangement had worked so efficiently that across the corporation's history the Audemars ' remained in charge of the technical while the Piguet family handle the company's commercial affairs.

The founding families are still in control of the company today. An affiliate representative of each family have always sat on the Audemars Piguet board.

The Audemars Piguet company has enjoyed a long and rich history with the arrival of the "Grande Complication" pocket watch which featured a small striker. In 1915 Audemars Piguet set an international record by inventing the smallest five minute repeater; this record remains un touched till today. In 1921 Audemars Piguet introduces the first jumping hour wrist-watch, and later in 1955 reveals the first watch carrying a eternal calendar mechanism.

In more modern times they announce in 1993 the Royal Oak Offshore. This watch was designed for the extraordinary sports genre of users, featuring rubber clad pushers and crown. With a depth of 100 meters it came in a big 44m case. In 2000 the company celebrated it's 125th anniversary by introducing the Jules Audemars Dynamograph. 5 years on a commemorative watch for Edward Piguet is released being the planet's first watch to be outfitted with a plate in moss agate.

Truly a company with great pride in it's process, products, and founders, Audemars Piguet watches rank to be among the classiest watches available on the current market. Becoming an owner of an Audemars Piguet watch makes you part of their rich heritage and tradition.
