I'm very happy with this product. I got the handy cooler for my husband who works in a car repair garage therefore there is no a/c. I liken it to taking in a cool gust of wind while taking a walk on the beach (or at least thats how I imagine it when that cool air hits my face just right). Do yourself a favor and buy one of these things!
It's bladeless so it is safe around my little ones. It'll be a 5 star product if it was below 40 bucks.
I should have invested in this product first. It did not work any better than a small battery powered foam fan and cost five times as much. I live in a medium humidity area (San Francisco Bay Area) so it may work better in a low humidity location. I've never seen the actual product so I was hoping I could see it before I buy it in a retail store. I asked the Genexus, the company, and they said the best deals were on Amazon so I got one from here.
I would buy this fan again. If you want you can mist your face with a water filled spray bottle (for women, if you are not wearing makeup) and let the fan blow it dry. I am happy that I purchased this ingenious product. This is the first fan ever that uses swamp cooling/water cooling in a unit so small that it can be easily carried in your hands.
I am going through menopause and having the handy cooler sit right next to me on my desk at work helps out a lot. When I feel a hot flash coming on, I just have to turn it on and I instantly feel better. It functions very well as a handheld fan and also doesn't feel flimsy like some other handheld fans I've owned in the past. I would definitely recommend this item. Alternatively, it comes with a USB cable and can be powered off your computer. The only problem is it doesn't work that well if it isn't hot. Pass on this one. Just started using this for the summer and it worked for one day, but now the fan suddenly slows down or stops completely with no warning. It really COOLS! One suggestion I have for inserting the "filter" is, place it into the slatted cover first and then snap it closed.
Another tip is to hold the handy cooler for 5 minutes in front of your car's air conditioner, which cools the water in the sponge before you need to use it. Overall, I consider the two Handy Coolers I bought nice-to-have items and not must-have items.
Probably less if you have the fan on "low". I got the AC adapter to go with it; otherwise you'll need to have batteries and possibly spares ready if you travel with it.
