What To Consider When Choosing Dress Pants For Men

By Jimmy Cox

Dress pants for men and men's dress shirt have been around for many decades and are gaining popularity once more these days. The good thing about these pants is that they come in different cuts that will suit the lifestyle of any wearer. To ensure that you are getting the right pair you need, there are a couple of details which must be considered before your purchase. These are the finish and the fabric.

The finish and the fabric are the top two things to consider for this task. Primarily, the finish includes six features to consider - the pleats, cuffs, closures, pockets, fit and lining. Let us know each feature one by one.

Pleats are signature features of dress pants for men which give them the classic look. Not all males are advised to go for pleats most especially the slim ones. They are better seen in flat front pants. Pleats benefit the males with big thighs and extra weight in the lower torso. Pleats help cover them up.

If your pants are pleated, they should be cuffed. Cuffs are responsible for keeping the pleats in place. Just like pleats, cuffs go well for certain body built. Males with long legs would look dashing in cuffed pants, but males with short legs would look otherwise. Cuffs can be added or removed to any ready-made slacks with the help of a tailor.

When it comes to the fit of the pants, the figure and body proportion of the wearer are taken in consideration. Slim fit are naturally best for slim men. Fits which come with wide legs are perfectly worn by men with big chests or big bellies. Wide legs help keep the balance between the upper and lower parts of the body.

Slacks for men can come in two closures - buttons and zippers. Unlike cuffs and pleats, buttons and zippers are perfect for any body type. Their use is just dependent on the wearer's preference.

When it comes to pockets, you can expect this kind of pants do not include patch pockets. Slash or angle pockets are a given for them. In terms of the back pockets, you will observe slight changes in style and that includes provision for button closure.

Last for the finish is the lining. Linings are usually found in pants made of wool. Linings extend from the waste to the knees. They are used for two reasons - for the wearer's comfort and for keeping pants in proper form through time.

Lastly, we have the fabric. Dress pants for men are usually cut out of wool, cotton and polyester blends of fabric. Wool pants, for one, are an all time favorite. Whether lightweight or heavyweight, these pants can be worn for a long time with fewer washes. Cotton slacks, which may be in corduroy and twill, are best worn during warm weather. If you want more affordable version of durable pants, try those made of polyester-blends.
