The Different Applications For Mezzanine Flooring For Offices

By Thelma Foreman

Mezzanine floors are a great way to increase space for your business without a permanent increase to your operating costs. Around the world businesses are looking for all kinds of ways through which they can reduce costs and maximize on output from their resources. Taking up of multiple roles by employees, diversification of product lines are some of the steps that businesses are taking to ensure that resources are not wasted. The idea of having mezzanine floors is actually inspired by storied buildings though these ones are built internally. The intention being to productively use the open and idle spaces that buildings with high ceilings have but is often unused.

Traditionally, mezzanine floors were mainly used for storage. There were all kinds of things stored there and they included office supplies and equipment, tools and parts, finished products to be collected by clients as well as other inputs. Slowly there has been a sort of evolution and mezzanine floors are currently used for a number of purposes. Businesses are having them put up for a number of different reasons. These reasons include, expanding office space. The executive team of the company can actually work from these offices since you can have them finished to very high standards. Another option would be to have specialty teams such as quality control using the offices. For teams that need to work with minimum interruption, this works very well.

Security related teams can also make excellent use of mezzanine floors. It is much easier to monitor the rest of the floor from and elevated position. It is also an ideal location for security related controls such as alarms, vault access, main door and gate controls. In the event of having a security emergency, the team working in the mezzanine floor is less vulnerable and can easily respond to the crisis as well as get external help.

Staff welfare areas are another excellent use of mezzanine flooring. Since they are non production activities that look after your team, you are likely not going to want them taking up your main floor space. It could be a break out area, changing area, gaming room or union offices. Making room for these facilities on mezzanine floors you have enough space for your operations while still taking care of your employees.

Mezzanine flooring is also often used to set up the dark rooms of photo studios or the design studios of printing shops. The main floor can then be left to clients walking in while the teams working on various projects can work in peace and quiet. Clinics will also have their laboratories situated in the mezzanine floors while the doctors work on the main floor. It actually is a great convenience as it not only reduces cost but also saves time as compared to having such services located at a different site away from the main shop.

Though they continue to be widely used for storage, mezzanine floors are today used for many other purposes in business.
