To be able to successfully pass the test in your first try, you must give yourself plenty of time to analyze and rehearse. If you don't pass on your first try you have to wait 30-days to retake the exam so be sure to allow sufficient time. Here are the vital steps...
Step 1: Cover a chapter inside your study guide at least every a couple of days. At first, skim over the chapter. Get an overview on the material covered. You're not going for retention here, just an outline. After going over the chapter, re-read it with highlighter and pen at your fingertips. Highlight essential text and make notes inside the margins. Don't concern yourself with the pop-quizes or sample tests as of this time, consentrate on ferreting out the key material.
Step 2: Review the chapter you just completed. With 3 x 5 index cards in hand begin to make flash cards with all the major information you highlighted and notes you wrote within the margins. Put just one question or topic on the front of each card and the answer on the backside. Once you get that entire chapter onto 3 x 5 note cards, speedily review them. Duplicate this for each section.
Step 3: Bring your finished notecards everywhere with you. When happen to be on a break, taking a stroll, or at lunch study them. Review as often as possible. You are going for repetition here. Repetition will insure proper memory recall later. Also, say the information out loud when possible, the more of your senses you engage the more effective your memory is going to be throughout the exam!
Step Four: You should be about 14 days from your Series 65 exam date now. It's time for you to go ahead and take sample tests. Go into a silent room, where you won't be interrupted, with a clean sheet of paper and pen. Grab a kitchen timer and set it for three hours and start taking a practice quiz. No cheating. You need a good appraisal of what you know and don't know. If you arrived at a question you're not sure of attempt to eliminate several of the answers. What do you know about the question? Don't take a long time. Make your best guess and write that question number down on your sheet of paper. If you have time towards the end, you can re-read those questions you had trouble with. Often times the answer is now perfectly clear.
Step Five: Grade your answers. For the questions you got wrong or guessed at (even though you guessed correctly) make brand new 3 x 5 note cards for all those questions and review all your new note cards regularly. Take a least a day off to review ALL of your note cards between sample exam days. Duplicate steps 4 & 5 until the day before the exam.
Step Six: T-minus tomorrow! Worried? Don't be you've prepared well. The day before the exam is very important. Don't stay up too late studying. Eat a good meal for supper and acquire ample restful sleep (no less than 6-8 hours). Also the morning of the exam, ensure you eat a high-quality meal, but don't stuff yourself. You want that blood in your head, not your belly! Get up a little early and get to your test site about 30-45 minutes before your exam. Bring your note cards and study them inside your automobile before the examination. Then... Success!!!
