Women love to wear perfumes and men also apply aftershaves at least. Men might pick up their aftershaves and colognes from a chemist or supermarket, while women prefer to shop in perfume shops. Men generally will stick to one brand of aftershave or cologne. But women will have several perfumes. She will have one to wear casually, another for the office, i.e., if she is working, and a third one for formal occasions.

The idea may sound enticing of setting up an online perfume shop, but it's easier said than done. First of all, you must enter into agreements with perfume suppliers, which can be quite tricky, as they will want a guarantee of sale. If you cannot meet that, they may refuse to allow you to advertise their product on your website. If you get your website search engine optimized and get a lot of orders and traffic, your website and you need to be capable of delivering to the traffic that you get.

Perfumes are worn by women according to the season. They may have a different set of perfumes for the winter and a different set for summers. At times, a new perfume comes in the market and is heavily advertised by the makers. You may have a lot of women demanding to try it. Your collection of perfumes has to be up to date. You cannot just specialize in perfumes, you must also carry deodorants, colognes etc. The perfume shop must be a shop that caters for everything that women may demand.

Perfumes are expensive items and need to be handled carefully. The people that you employ to man the counters should know about perfumes. In fact, you need to be an expert on perfumes and you cannot go into this business without having ample knowledge about it. Setting up any business requires you to have knowledge of what you are getting into. Setting up a perfume shop requires a lot of capital and the location has to be right. You can setup a perfume shop in a location and find that there aren't ladies coming to your shop.

You must know which the popular perfumes are and you must have them in stock. You will learn how to stock perfumes as you gain experience in the business. You might stock few pricy perfumes and stock more daily wear perfumes that are more in demand. Running a perfume shop is all about giving personal attention to your customers. Some customers will sail in, ask for a particular perfume, purchase it and leave. On the other hand, you will have women who will test various perfumes before reaching a decision. You will need to be patient in handling such clients. They can get you more business and that's exactly what you want. To run a successful perfume shop, you will need to develop a clientele. This will require very savvy and courteous salesmanship.
